Digital Rowing announced a major milestone was reached in Online Rowing recently with over 100,000 boats now having crossed the online finish line.
"This is a fantastic milestone" says Digital Rowing President Pete Loeffen. "The new Online Rowing system released two years ago triggered a huge increase in the popularity of Online Rowing. We are now seeing a growing community of online rowers, and a steady increase in the number of online rows each person is doing weekly."
Growth is expected to continue strongly as more people get involved. "It's addictive" says Pete Loeffen. "Once people get into it they just keep going. We know from research that RowPro motivates people to keep up their rowing, and Online Rowing plays a big part."
One of the most popular activities online is organized sessions. "The people you meet, the training partners you are able to hook up with, the online racing, it's really great. It is without a doubt the best motivational tool I've ever come across" says Chad Goss, a seasoned RowPro user and organizer of regular online rowing activities.
Longtime Online Rower Ellen Dollar agrees. "RowPro makes all the difference. I hardly ever row alone any more. I've rowed 98% of the last 5 million meters online with other rowers." says Ellen. "RowPro has taken rowing to a whole new level. I absolutely love it. I have friendships I've formed with people in Europe, New Zealand, UK, and all over the US from meeting them online and chatting before and after a row."
Since the release of RowPro Version 3 it has been possible for teams to do Online Rowing sessions with a selection of boat sizes, including singles (1x), doubles (2x), quadruples (4x) and octuples (8x) . This is expected to open up a whole new wave of growth in Online Rowing as schools, colleges and universities begin using it for off-season training and competition.
"We're already seeing interest in this from universities and colleges around the world" says Pete Loeffen. "In time this will become a major online activity in its own right, and may well lead to online championships. Watch this space."
