Frank J. Knight has become the first Digital Rowing customer to log 1 million meters in his RowPro rowing log, and he did it in just 7 months.
Frank achieved the million meter milestone on Nov 4, 2003. "Today my RowPro log is up to 1,002,899 meters" Frank posted on the Digital Rowing forum. "Just want to say thanks for a great product."
Frank is a 50-59 heavyweight with a 2000m PB of 6:53.6. "My goal is to break 6:50" he says. "I seem to be on track as long as there are no training or health surprises" which refers to his recent bout of Pertussis (Whooping Cough).
Digital Rowing President Pete Loeffen congratulated Frank on his historic achievement. "We built RowPro to be a companion for indoor rowers, and we're delighted to see Frank clocking up so many meters with RowPro."
The key to Frank's big meters this year has been the RowPro Training Plans created by Jon Ackland of Performance Lab. During his recovery from Pertussis, Frank used a RowPro Fitness Plan to structure his rowing and stop him working too hard. "I am extremely pleased with the results" says Frank. "The plan really worked for me and definitely has helped me get back into shape."
From there, Frank went on to RowPro Competition Plans for middle distance and very long distance, as a result of which he has achieved several new PBs.
Frank is now 23.4 seconds faster over 5000m, 40 seconds faster over 6000m, and a whopping 12 minutes faster over a marathon. He says "The RowPro plans seem to be a great combination of speed work and endurance, with enough recovery built in so I don't regress. My goal was to do middle distance races at 1:50-51 pace and stay aerobic. My most recent 6000m was at 1:48.6 pace, which is bit better than the pace of my previous 5000m."
Frank may seem to work very hard at his training, but he's clear about how to get the results he wants. "The tough part about any training is not how hard to push, but when to back off and let yourself recover. That is especially important to older athletes as recovery takes longer. Jon's mix of training continues to leave me feeling fresh and ready for my next workout. What I like about the plans is the mix of hard and easy. I always seem to feel rested and ready to go when it comes time for a Time Trial. I've substituted an e-Row online race or two in place of the Time Trial and that is how I did the 5000m PB."
Frank also recently joined RowPro Rowers online, boosting the team total by over 1.5 million meters to date. He continues to row over three times as many meters as any other member of RowPro Rowers, and is well on track to achieving his target of 2 million meters this season. Go Frank!
